All you need to know: Miley x MAC

Last month, the scandalous pop princess, Miley Cyrus, announced an upcoming collaboration with make-up powerhouse MAC for their ‘Viva Glam’ line. Miley will be following the likes of Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, both of whom have released their own lines with MAC in recent years, with a bright, bubblegum pink lipstick and matching lip gloss.

For those who are well acquainted with their local MAC counter, it’s rumoured that the lipstick will be of MAC’s ‘Amplified’ Formula – meaning that it’s highly pigmented with a slight sheen and is very long-lasting. The lip gloss will be MAC’s ‘Lipglass’ formula.

Miley released the news via Twitter with an image from the campaign, featuring her in a sparkly black bodysuit from the Blonds’ Fall/Winter 2014 Collection and glittery pink lips. MAC’s Viva Glam campaign is re-released frequently, each time with a new product and collaborator, to benefit the MAC AIDS fund. The fund started in 1994 by MAC founders Frank Angelo and Frank Toskan to “celebrate life and the outspoken attitude of the company”. The first campaign brought out a bright, passionate red lippie that made a statement and embraced MAC’s mantra at a time when HIV/AIDS was greatly stigmatised: All ages, all races, all sexes. Over the years, big names such as Rupaul, Sir Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Pamela Anderson, KD Lang and Lady Gaga have collaborated with MAC to create limited-edition shades and help the cause. From the very start, 100% of the selling price of the Viva Glam products have gone towards helping men, women and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Miley’s campaign will hit the MAC shelves in early 2015, meaning that you will be able to use those Christmas vouchers to pick up a little something for yourself whilst also helping the fight against HIV/AIDS.
